About Alex

Alex White, Senior Counsel, is a Labour TD for Dublin South. He is Chairman of the Oireachtas (Irish Parliament) Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure & Reform.
He is a graduate in Economic and Social Studies from Trinity College Dublin (1981). He qualified from the Kings Inns and was called to the Irish Bar in 1987.
Between 1984 and 1994 Alex White was a current affairs producer with RTE, managing a range of different programme types and radio output, including coverage of major events such as general elections. He was editor of the Gay Byrne Show for four years before leaving RTE to take up practice as a barrister.
Alex White has been a leading practitioner in employment and labour law since 1994, appearing regularly before the Irish Courts and in employment tribunals on behalf of employee and employer clients. He was called to the Inner Bar in 2010.
Alex White was elected to South Dublin County Council as a first-time candidate in June 2004 and was Deputy Mayor in 2006/2007. After contesting the 2007 general election in Dublin South, he subsequently was elected to the Senate on the Cultural and Educational panel, becoming group leader of the Labour Party, as well as being national spokesperson on Children for the party.
Alex White has lectured on employment law and on media studies, and is a frequent contributor to radio and television. He is married to NUI Maynooth sociologist Mary Corcoran. They have one daughter and one son.






By the way, in my first post, I forgot to tell you how much I enjoyed listening to your youtube. Reading your About page reminded me how impressed I was by your eloquence. As you may know, our country has been eight years plagued by a President who, it seems, can barely speak “American,” much less English. And if the McCain ticket wins, it looks as though Vice President Palin would be no better. Oh, how I long to be rid of these base types in politics … Thank you for providing hope!
